Learner Profiles

As part of our journey as a STEM school, we are introducing nine different STEM Learner Profiles this school year. It is our belief that a STEM Learner is a problem-solver who: collaborates, perseveres, has integrity, is innovative, is globally aware, is flexible, has empathy, is a critical thinker, and communicates. Each month this year, we will introduce and focus on one learner profile and we will highlight students who demonstrate the monthly learner profile.

August - Community of Ivy

September- Integrity

At a STEM school, Integrity is at the heart of everything we do. As students explore and learn, they develop skills and traits that will benefit them as lifelong learners. This STEM profile reflects important character traits that help students grow as thoughtful, responsible, honest, and reflective individuals.

The integrity profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. Character strong this month is Respect.

October- Collaborator

At a STEM school, we collaborate. As students collaborate, they build skills to work respectfully with others, listen to new ideas, share responsibilities, and help find solutions together. Whether it’s building a robot, solving a math problem, or designing an experiment, collaborators understand that every voice matters and that working as a team builds a strong learning community.

The collaborator profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. Character strong this month is Responsibility.

November- Communicator

At a STEM school, we are effective communicators. Communicators are thoughtful listeners and clear speakers who strengthen our other STEM profiles. They actively listen to others’ perspectives, ask meaningful questions, and share ideas with clarity and confidence. Communicators ensure that every voice is heard and understood. One lifelong skill that this profile helps to develop is connecting ideas and people. This skill helps teamwork be successful.

The communicator profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. The Character Strong profile this month is Gratitude.

December- Empathetic

At a STEM school, we encourage all to be empathic. An Empathetic Learner is someone who understands and cares about the feelings, experiences, and perspectives of others. They build a classroom community where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. When we understand one another, we learn better together. Empathy is not just a feeling—it's an action. Empathetic learners strengthen our school community and remind us that every person matters.

The empathy profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. This month's Character Strong profile is Gratitude.

January- Innovative

At a STEM school, we are innovators. Innovators are curious thinkers and creative problem-solvers who strengthen our other STEM profiles. They ask questions, explore new ideas, and design solutions to real-world challenges. Innovators are willing to take risks, learn from mistakes, and improve their thinking through reflection and perseverance. One lifelong skill that this profile helps to develop is creative problem-solving. This skill helps students adapt, think flexibly, and find solutions in an ever-changing world.

The innovative profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. This month's Character Strong profile is Perseverance.

February- Globally Aware

April- Critical Thinker

At a STEM school, we are Critical Thinkers. Critical Thinkers are logical decision-makers who strengthen our other STEM profiles. They think clearly and rationally about what to do and what to believe.

Critical Thinkers are brave enough to ask "Why?", look closely at the facts, and change their minds when they learn something new. One lifelong skill that this profile helps to develop is informed decision-making. This skill helps students navigate complex information, avoid bias, and make sound choices in an ever-changing world.

The Critical Thinker profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. The Character Strong profile this month is Courage.

May- Flexible

At a STEM school, we are Flexible. Flexible thinkers are adaptable learners and open-minded explorers. They can change and adapt when needed to find new ways forward.

Flexible thinkers are brave enough to try a different path, listen to new ideas, and change their plans when things don't go as expected. One lifelong skill that this profile helps to develop is resilience. This skill helps students bounce back from challenges, stay calm during change, and keep growing in an ever-changing world.

The Flexible learner profile aligns well with our STAR behaviors and Character Strong lessons. This month's Character Strong profile is Creativity.
